The River Casino announces Nashua relocation

The small New Hampshire town of Milford will be losing its only casino after ten years following news that The River Casino is soon set to move just over 13 miles to the city of Nashua.

According to a report from The Cabinet newspaper, the gambling establishment operated by New Hampshire Charitable Gaming will be relocating to the site of the former Arena Sports Bar near the center of Nashua within the next few weeks while the Milford location is to be transformed into a bingo and Lucky 7 parlor.

“We’ve always wanted to be in Nashua,” Greg Barber, General Manager for The River Casino told The Cabinet. “This is our first real opportunity to do it.”

Barber revealed that the new location will be christened The River Casino And Sports Bar and offer twelve poker tables and six traditional gaming tables alongside a full-service restaurant and bar featuring 40 televisions and a trio of projector screens.

“We are thrilled to bring our brand of casino entertainment to Nashua,” said Barber. “It’s a great location to provide the gaming opportunity to a bigger audience and allows us to offer a wide selection of food, drinks and other amenities.”

The River Casino is one of nine charitable casinos operating in New Hampshire and must hand over at least 35% of its daily takings to a local charity registered with the office of Bill Gardner, the Secretary Of State Of New Hampshire. In addition, no charity can receive these funds more than ten times per year, which means that the Milford enterprise has found dozens of organizations to support so that it may operate year-round. The state moreover charges a 10% tax on all gaming activities as well as a 3% duty on tournaments, which have a maximum betting limit of $4.

Barber explained that the last decade has seen The River Casino donate more than $2.6 million to nearly 75 non-profit groups including animal protection causes and veterans organizations as well as student athletic, church and food pantry programs.

“We have a great place here in Nashua and we want our customers to walk through the doors and have a fun and exciting gaming experience while knowing we are giving back to our community,” Barber told The Cabinet.
